Saturday - Biking and a new Sport!

Saturday, Sept 1, 2018

We were a slow-starting group on Saturday.  The wind was to blow all day, but best from noon until three.

Ross, Louise and I rode our E-bikes down to the market (which runs on Saturday), for breakfast supplies, and then Ross cooked a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and fresh fruit.

Ross and Andreas headed out kiting for the afternoon by the bridge, and Sue went off to explore (she had some beautiful photos of lavender & vineyards).

Louise and I decided to go for a bike ride.  We rode through Mosier to the Rowena Lookout, stopping on the way to enjoy all the views from the lookouts.  Spectacular!  We turned around and started home - into the wind.  We were having to pedal relatively hard to go down some of the hills!

When we got close to Mosier there was a sign - "Wine Tasting - Bikes Welcome".  What a great new sport.  A wine tasting tour on bicycles!

We turned in, and when we got to the parking lot - there were four more e-bikes lined up at the fence.  These belonged to some ladies who were obviously out on a day trip.  They were having a lot of fun, and had brought sausage, cheese and other snacks with them to enjoy while they sipped wine.  Obviously, they had done this before and had it all figured out.

We met Todd at the Granier Vineyards.  He guided us through several of their fine wines, while we sat on a deck looking out on the vineyard and river.  What a great way to spend the afternoon!  We are definitely going to have to do this again.

We stopped at Mosier for ice cream, but the ice cream shop was closed.  Apparently, the fellow that had owned it died and willed it to his church - and the church and the fellow who had been running the shop couldn't get along, so the shop closed a week or so ago.  Louise wasn't going to go any further without ice cream (or was it Ted), so we went into the store and bought some ice cream bars and water.  Maybe not as good as the Ice Cream Shop's cones, but still excellent.
Louise enjoyed her ride!
When we got back to town, we rode down to the Event Site to check it out.  It was very busy.  Ross says Labour Day Saturday is probably the busiest day of the year.  We ran into Phil Soltysaic and said hello.  He was just packing up after being on the water all day.

We got back to the Condo at around 5:30.  Ross, Andreas and Sue were on the Deck with their kiting friend Matt.  Louise and I cleaned up after our ride and then went down for appetizers.

Ross and Andreas told us they had been overpowered on their 7m kits, and Andreas was talking about his jumps.  I told him about the Keho guy's using their Woo's to measure his jumping height and their leaderboard.  Now he wants to get a Woo.  He is sure he can jump higher than 13m!

We went to 6th Street for supper.  It was excellent as usual!

We need to tell Spencer about it.
